Mhy Western Finland will start operations on May 1, 2026
Mhy Länsi-Suomi will start operations on 1 May 2026 and will consist of five forest management associations and combine the expertise of the Karhu, Pirkanmaa, Pohjois-Pirkka, Roine and Satakunta forest management associations. This change will directly affect over 17,000 forest owners and almost 600,000 hectares of forest, and will create even more extensive resources and expertise in the region (Source: Mhy.fi, Metsälehti).
Why does this matter to you?
The reform strengthens the local forest owners’ service network, brings in more specialized expertise and improves operational reliability. The services will continue as usual, and forest owners will not have to take any measures for their own forests – experts will continue to support them on the same principle (Source: Mhy.fi).
Mhy Western Finland will start operations on May 1, 2026 – what does it mean for forest owners?
The new operator will bring together the expertise of approximately 100 employees and expand the capacity of its services. Mhy Länsi-Suomi aims for more efficient operations, deeper expertise and better opportunities to promote sustainable forest management throughout the Pirkanmaa and Satakunta regions (Source: Mhy.fi; Metsälehti).
Leadership selection and transformational leadership
Experienced forestry manager Jussi Parviainen has been selected as the director of Mhy Western Finland. Parviainen has a degree in forestry engineering (BA) and extensive leadership experience: he has led Mhy Pirkanmaa for four years and Mhy Lakeutta for nine years, during which he successfully implemented previous mergers (Source: Mhy.fi; SV24; Metsälehti). According to the selection committee, Parviainen’s change leadership, business expertise and emphasis on personnel well-being make him an excellent leader to guide this transition phase (Source: Mhy.fi).
Continuity of services and practical impacts for forest owners
An important message for forest owners is the continuity of services: your own experts will continue to provide support, but now with broader expertise. The merger does not require any action from forest owners, but the changes will be visible in the background as an enhanced organization (Source: Mhy.fi).
How will the change affect sustainability and renewable energy?
The new, broader forest management association’s influence extends beyond forest management to climate and energy themes. Mhy Länsi-Suomi emphasizes the maintenance of natural values and participates in voluntary conservation programs such as METSO and Helmi, which support biodiversity and offer financial incentives to forest owners (Source: Mhy.fi). This policy strengthens the role of forests as carbon sequestration and as a responsible raw material for bioenergy, both key topics in national climate work.
Mhy Western Finland and Seron Oy — concrete cooperation opportunities
- Solar energy in forest houses: the electricity and heating needs of forest farms and cottages can be solved with solar panels and household battery solutions — this improves self-sufficiency and reduces fossil energy use.
- Energy storage and smart charging stations: an expanding service network can utilize more abundant local renewable production and electric transport, for example by installing yard charging stations and storage for rural needs.
- CNC and automation technologies: growing bio-processing and the local wood industry benefit from machining and automation, which increase productivity and support the circular economy.
These aspects are also written about by Metsälehti and other industry news sources when they describe the possibilities of unifying the forest industry (Source: Metsälehti).
Practical tips for forest owners and farm entrepreneurs

Mhy Western Finland: a regional influencer and example in the field
An expanded association can serve as an example of successful integration in Finnish forestry and improve the ability to influence sustainable forest management in a wider area. This can support national goals for carbon neutrality and strengthen the market for wood-based products (Source: Metsälehti).
